Mayer, who recently revealed the release date for his upcoming new album, “Born and Raised,” plans to play a number shows to promote the new studio LP and will be hitting a number of stops across the Midwest and East Coast. He also released the first single for the upcoming album, a country-laden, twang-filled track called “Shadow Days,” which you can listen to below.

Tentative plans have Mayer’s Born and Raised 2012 tour kicking off in Bloomington, Indiana at the IU Auditorium on April 9th and will conclude with a show at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona on May 6th.

Mayer will be accompanied by keyboardist Chuck Leavell throughout the tour. Leavell, as many recall, is somewhat of a pianist legend in his own right, having jammed with everyone from Eric Clapton to the Rolling Stones. Drummer Aaron Sterling and bassist Sean Hurley will also be joining Mayer onstage for the tour.

Select ticket’s for Mayer’s upcoming 2012 spring showcase will be available to the general public starting on Thursday, March 1st and the rest will be available the following day on Friday, March 2nd.

“Born and Raised” will be Mayer’s fifth studio record and was produced by the acclaimed singer along with Don Was and a number of other notable producers. It features David Crosby and Graham Nash in the album’s title-track, with both legendary performers providing back up vocals to what is expected to be a much-anticipated single. Previously, “Born and Raised” was scheduled for release in the fall of 2012, but Mayer recently indicated that it will hit stores early on May 22nd.

Mayer’s last studio release, “Battle Studies,” was released in 2009 and debuted at No.1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, with 286,000 album copies sold in its first week of release. It has since sold more than 880,000 copes and spawned a number of hit singles, including “Heartbreak Warfare” and “Half of My Heart.”
